Overview:
Since 1890, Squantum Yacht Club has been a pillar for sailing education, competition, and community among Quincy’s twenty-seven miles of coastline. This year, we are offering two course: (1) an adult learn-to-sail course on Keelboats and (2) an Adult Dinghy Sailing course on our new fleet the RS Quest. These courses are geared to teach sailing safely and skillfully; to develop confidence for sailing keelboats or dinghies, and to instill a respect for the sea.
Adult Learn-to-Sail on Keelboats:
This is a learn-to-sail course offered to adult sailors (18+) that are beginning their sailing careers or looking to advance their current skillset. It is recommended for adult sailors of all ages that prefer leisurely sailing on larger and more stable boats during sunset hours. The boats featured include J/22s, J/24s, Pearson 24s, Cal 30s, Seaward 26rks, and more. New sailors will learn parts of the boat, rigging/derigging independently, leaving and returning to a mooring, proper tacking, general safety procedures, and the ability to sail a proper course. Experienced sailors will learn proper sail trim and adjustments, navigation, boat maintence, independent sailing, and leading crew through important safety procedures. All participants highly recommended to take the online Basic Keelboat Online cost $50 through US sailing to learn many of the sailing concepts we will be engaging with in class.

NEW COURSE: Adult Dinghy Sailing on RS Quests

It is recommended for adult sailors of all ages that are physically fit and prefer to engage with the sport of sailing on smaller, less stable boats. The RS quests are fast, fun, and we are so incredibly excited for this new addition on our bay this season! Sailors will learn parts of the boat, rigging/derigging independently, leaving and returning to the dock, proper tacking, capsizing and turtling procedures, how to sail differ race courses, and racing start/ finish techniques. Participants will be provided with a curriculum of videos to watch at home outside of the course to learn many of the sailing concepts we will be engaging with in class. All sailors will be in an RS Quest with a certified US Sailing Level 1 instructor.
